Geography of South Asia: Physical Characteristics

This video lecture introduces students to the physical geography of South Asia. Included is a description of several major physical features such as the Himalaya Mountains, Hindu Kush Mountains, Western Ghats, Indus River, Ganges River, and the Thar Desert. It also examines the importance of the Summer and Winter Monsoons on South Asia's climate and trade. It also points out the alarm that scientists have that global warming and rising oceans might have on the archipelago nation of the Maldives. It identifies the major climate types that are found in South Asia: Arid, Semi-Arid, Tropical Wet/Dry, Humid Subtropical, and Alpine/Highland Climates. It explains the similarity between Cyclones and Hurricanes and the cause and effect of Tsunamis.
