This 1967 video in a pub of 'The Singing Postman' (Allan Smethurst) is part of a delightful 15-minute promo film made by Ralph Tuck, the local BBC radio presenter who discovered him. Rural pub life in the 60's, when pubs were split into two: 'Saloon Bars' for the well-to-do who paid more for their drinks, and the 'Public Bar' where workers could visit in their work clothes. Britain's class system flourished in the pubs. Smethurst's observational lyrics capture that world and era succinctly.

I like a yard if the company is right,

2. Round in the smoke room, television on,
Sometimes a quiz show, sometimes a song;
Then you get the newsreel, on about the bomb,

3. All the best people, they go in the best room,
Talk about the business, slumps and the boom
Somebody's going to lose their tea break soon

4. Now we don't know where we come from,

Going to introduce themselves, Take a little walk
The first thing they say: ‘Have you got a bit of chalk?’

8. There's a nice little barmaid, looking at me,
Nice little barmaid, pretty she be;
Just pulled her stockings up, but they don't see,
Because they’re all playing dommies in the bar!
“Can you go? No! Ohh! Dominoe!”
