An exciting program with original compositions for percussion duo in the border area of improvisation, performance, electronics, video and percussion. With BETTER ME, the two artists Vanessa Porter and Emil Kuyumcuyan have conceived a versatile program that showcases their artistic strengths and their mission to push the boundaries of music and multimedia art in terms of video, sound and light art.
It combines instruments and styles from different cultures and traditions, creating a stylistic spectrum that ranges from archaic to avant-garde forms of expression. For the duo, the exploration of new paths and art forms is paramount, which is why all the works were newly composed by the two artists especially for the concept. In this project, electronic and acoustic elements are seamlessly integrated into their own compositions, in which both percussion and electronics are equally in focus. Sound, light and video art is also a fixed medium in BETTER ME.
The video artist Rafael Ossami Saidy has created unique videos for this program that visually and scenically complete BETTER ME.
BETTER ME is an interdisciplinary artistic project that reflects contemporary social issues through electro-acoustic music and multimedia art. It deals with the increasing desire for self-determination, (self-)staging and confrontation that characterizes our society. Every individual wants to be heard, seen and perceived, fights for (their own) justice and to live according to their own ideas.
