Amid this challenging year, 2020 Graduate Students from the Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) come together to perform and arrange music in dedication to one of the most influential artists of American Music, Wayne Shorter. This is the first video production in our ongoing series of graduate collaborative productions in tribute to influential artists.

Shorter’s musical legacy sets a standard for American culture, and his influence spans across the globe. His timeless contributions are about humans not resting on past achievements at the expense of growth in the present, and his musical journey reveals an intellect and heart that is nevertheless current and, more than ever, relevant. The “BGJI Super Nova Project” celebrates the artists whose contributions enable humans to find bold proposals of outstanding pedagogical, artistic, and social importance to rise to the challenge of living in peace, dignity, justice, and freedom. Thank you, Wayne Shorter, for becoming the living example of courage, wisdom, and innovation across the world.
