Sorting out the brakes – Suzuki GSXR750 project series episode 5 | KNOX Armour

In the KNOX GSXR 750 project series, we have made the bike faster, we have made it handle better with new suspension set up, but at some point its got to stop and improving the brakes had to be next on the cards!

The Suzuki GSXR 750 brakes are pretty good as standard although when pushing on track, they do start to fade a little and lack a bit of feel, a bit all or nothing. In this episode, we try to remedy that by installing some upgrades including SBS sintered race pads and Hel Performance brake lines.

Firstly, new brake pads from SBS, a world leader in brake pads. I chose the SBS 806 rs for the front and 833LS for the rear. https://www.sbs.dk/products/racing/br.... These are the right choice for my bike, a part road bike, part track bike and should provide improved bite but also work in all temperatures.

Secondly, I chose Hel brake lines. At least in my mind, there was only 1 place to go for brake lines and that was Hel. These should significantly reduce fade as the brake fluid heats up on track and also improve braking feel. You can find these here - https://www.helperformance.com/. The package came with all the new banjo bolts and washers you need which was great!
Changing the lines and brake pads was actually pretty straight forward if you follow the guidelines in your owners manual, but we’d recommend 2 people if its your first time as the bleeding process involves moving from caliper to lever and its just easier with 2 people.

So having fitted them, what is the set up like? Well, we went to the Airfield to find out!!

Testing on the road is one thing, but unfortunately, its not really possible to put enough heat into the brakes with speed limits in mind, so we went to do some high speed runs and put them under some pressure. 5-6 0-140mph runs back to back and heavy on the brakes reveals any weaknesses in our experience, and the new braking set up performed excellently – no fade, improved power and much better feel… I also managed to pull a few nicely controlled rolling stoppies and as you can see in the video, the rear brake worked pretty well too! 😊

So it’s a thumbs up from me and cant wait to try the set up on track over the next couple of months.
