Something is causing the bulkheads of a starship to bleed!

Human worlds from Platmore Field to Epsilon Gamma now face imminent attack. Five possible primary targets are in the sights of the Imperial war fleet. Skywatch forces have been dispatched to strike points spanning more than twenty light years, but the admiralty knows they don't have the firepower to match the combined might of three armadas.

Catastrophic risks forced by corrupt delays and appeasement combined with short-sighted cruelty inflicted on former enemies have caught up with human civilization, and now Alliance populations will pay the price if new captains like Commander Vincent Orelian of the heavy cruiser Los Angeles and Commander Luca Van Deer of the strike cruiser Alecto make even a single mistake!

Meanwhile, what Argent's boarding party finds aboard the Task Force flagship cannot be explained by science or superstition. Alien creatures from no known world emerge from every shadow aboard the floating tomb once known as DSS _San Cristobal_. They bring with them is a pestilence no man can survive.

This is the Alliance's third major defeat. There will be no easy victories from here out. No glory and no place to hide. Immense spacecraft with the power to destroy life on a planetary scale have invaded human systems. Alliance planets are in danger for the first time in nearly 100 years.
