Описание к видео Why Baby Why by Neil Hunt

Tops Records were known for their "knock-off" versions of the popular songs of the day, and, for the most part, their versions were inferior to say the least, but this budget version of Pat Boone million-seller "Why Baby Why" is not too shabby.
I collect Tops Records, which may seem odd, but the record label had a long, successful history, a MASSIVE library accumulated, and was a major contender in the record industry in the 1950's. I like their rarity, and even more, their album cover artwork (which they did in their own manufacturing plant), which is a historical time capsule of the teenage fashions and styles of the day.
The label was founded in 1947 and prospered throughout the 1950's by selling budget-rate remakes of the popular tunes at the time, sold mostly in discount drugstores. The record label was valued at 1 million dollars at one time, selling cheap imitations of the hits of the day, usually uncredited, even to their own non-union singers and musicians they produced themselves. The label eventually gave credit to the musicians and vocalists, but many of these are questionable, as some of their issues using the same recordings were credited to entirely different artists.
Pickwick Records picked up on this "knock-off versions" idea and became Tops Records' main competitor, and bought Tops after it went bankrupt in 1962. I collect the old Pickwick knock-off records, too.
Most of the Tops records I have been able to find are in really bad shape, as heard here. Most of the Tops Records did not credit the vocalist, but this e.p. does, if that is the actual artist, they were notorious for reissuing the same songs with a different name for the artist each time.
