FAQ

How long did it take you to hike the trail?
140 days.

What are the stick things that you're juggling?
Those are my collapsable trekking poles. I would use them everyday to hike with and would often use one in the evening to help pitch my tarp. The brand is Leki and the model is Makalu - Titanium. Which I think is a discontinued model. www.Leki.com

What kind of backpack and shelter did you use?
Backpack was a 2,800 in3 Ray-Way backpack with hip-belt and sternum strap. Shelter was a one-person Ray-Way Tarp. www.RayJardine.com

What kind of food did you eat?
I followed Andrew Skurka's hiking diet. For more information I recommend his book "The Ultimate Hiker's Gear Guide." www.AndrewSkurka.com

Did you see any bears?
Yes, In Tennessee, Virginia, New York and Connecticut and I never had a problem with them.

How heavy was your pack?
It's hard to know and give an accurate answer to that question because the weight of food, water and fuel would go down every day after resupplying in a town. I never carried over 20 pounds. Without food, water and fuel my base weight numbers were approx. 10 pounds in April, 7.2 pounds in June and July and 8.5 in August.

How did you get the torches?
I had a loved one at home mail them along with a nalgene bottle of coleman fuel to Millinocket ME, a week before I planned to arrive there. Then carried that stuff in a handbag for the last 15 miles of the trail.

I'd like to hire you for an event, how do I get in contact with you?
