Did middle-aged career criminal George Mitchell REALLY steal from the SEXY, posh do-gooder who has long since taken him under her wing AND got the rest of her posh-o family to do so? Why does Mitchell plead guilty to SOME counts of theft but not guilty to others? Is he a far-right racist bigot, like the police offer who acts as witness suggests? Separately, the actor who plays the defence barrister in this Crown Court full episode is BEAUTIFUL! It's a shame that he had to portray the losing side of the case, haha! If YOU are wondering why a case of theft was tried at the Crown Court (rather than at the Magistrates Court or even by police caution), so is just about everyone else! (Or not - there are at least two reasons for this and I mention them in the COMMENTARY that I've included). It's a great drama, in any event, so get watching, especially if you want an indication of the ugly racial tensions that were prevalent in the UK in the 70s. Things were much worse then than now, "thanks" in particular to a particular Conservative MP who liked a good metaphor...
