Instead of creating music by playing a virtual instrument, REAPER does have its own sampler called ReaSamplomatic 5000 (short RS5K), which we can use to load samples and play them directly via the MIDI keyboard. This demonstration shows you how you can load multiple samples into a pseudo virtual instrument that way.

NOTE: this video is a retake and was published in a similar way about a year ago, but things changed since then and this video shows you everything in order to set up your RS5K instrument the way it works right now.
