From Leon Russell's 1995 collection of Christmas hymns he recorded and dedicated to his mother Hester, here is "The First Noel." Most Leon fans know that “Leon” backwards is “Noel,” as shown in this video.
It was co-produced by Leon and his son Teddy Jack.
That collection was released on cd format on Leon's own Leon Russell Records, and after Dark Horse Records secured the rights to Leon's post 1984 recordings, Hymns Of Christmas was released for the first time on vinyl (and emerald green at that) on Black Friday in 2024.
Dark Horse Records was first begun in 1974 by Beatle George. Among its releases was George's 1975 album Extra Texture, which had George's song "Tired Of Midnight Blue" on it. Leon played some amazing piano on that song, which is on this YouTube channel.
