The CS-2 was first released in December 1981, and is a fairly popular, lower priced compressor pedal with a simple control layout. It doesn't have a huge amount of output and can squish and pump pretty damn hard at maximum 'sustain' settings. According to the schematic, the 'attack' knob actually sets the release time, but is labelled 'attack' to be more intuitive to the user - so fully CW will give a faster release time ie to give your guitar more 'attack' (stronger transients) during fast playing.

I am a big fan of the CS-2 as it has a nice 'pop' and subtle clipping for 70s style funk guitar sounds (similar to the hard-strummed rhythm guitar sound on Zappa's 'The Duke of Prunes'.)

The CP-1x was released in 2016 and utilises BOSS's MDP technology, to essentially do some frequency-band separation before applying compression in the digital domain. It is a great lower priced alternative to the Cali76 range for that hifi 'studio' compression sound. It stays very clear running it after distortion and has a lot of headroom and output.
