A team of archaeologists working along the Great Pee Dee River near Johnsonville just discovered a small collection of artifacts that once belonged to the Native Americans who had originally lived in this part of South Carolina.
According to Chris Judge, the secretary of the Archaeological Society of the Pee Dee, this river was one of the interstates of the pre-colonial era. The Native Americans who lived here used the rivers and other waterways as their highways, going by boat from one settlement to another.
