Test for Lymphatic Congestion in Your Horse’s Front Legs

This quick check has become my go-to when assessing lymphatic flow. I discovered it while working with horses dealing with CPL and cellulitis.

✅ Rule of Thumb:
If the skin (hide) stretches easily down to the coronary band, your horse has good lymphatic flow. ➝ Do nothing — you’re good to go!
⚠️ If the skin feels “stuck” or has resistance, it means there’s congestion. Then you’ll want to check how far it extends — the entire leg, or just sections of it.

👉 How to Test Your Horse’s Front Extremities:
1️⃣ Place one hand on the inside (medial) and one on the outside (lateral) of the leg.
2️⃣ Stretch the hide upward in short segments, starting at the top of the leg and moving downward.
3️⃣ Repeat on both front legs and compare.
