Big Pit Mining Museum, Blaenavon

Thursday 12th October 2023:
Today I visited the Big Pit Mining Museum in Blaenavon, South Wales.

I used to live not far from there, in an adjacent valley. Coal mining was something that shaped the towns and villages of the valleys and my father spent his entire working life as a miner. He'd have made an excellent guide at Big Pit - where retired miners are on hand to answer questions and will lead you on an underground tour - if you're brave enough to go 300 feet below for an hour! Plenty to see and do above ground though, as well.

I thoroughly recommend it as a must-see attraction! And it's free to go in!
