In the summer of 1955, in the sleepy town of Commonville, a mystery gathered behind the weathered brick walls of the Vilfred Apartments.

Naomi King—on the cusp of a storied journalism career—was found dead in her apartment, strangled in the very home where she once chased secrets.

Whispers swept the town: had Naomi been onto something big. Too big. Something someone was willing to kill to keep buried.

The investigation dragged on. Promising leads turned to dust. Files yellowed. Witnesses vanished. And so, her name became just another line in the cold case ledger… until now.

This morning, it happened again. At the Commonville Hotel, officers found the body of the Commonville Gazette reporter Cassie Hart. She too had been strangled. Inside her purse was an old, weathered notebook.

Embossed on the cover was the name "Naomi King".

The notebook contained a detailed timeline of Naomi’s last days from twenty years ago. More important, tucked between the pages, was a booking photo of a petty thief and swindler named Frankie DeWitt.

Was Cassie investigating the twenty-year-old murder? Was she also silenced as Naomi had been?
