Скачать или смотреть India Launches Free HPV Vaccination Drive From Feb 28 To Prevent Cervical Cancer

In a historic move to strengthen women’s healthcare, the Government of India is set to roll out a nationwide HPV vaccination program to protect girls from cervical cancer.

The campaign aims to prevent Cervical Cancer, one of the most common cancers affecting women in India. The vaccination drive will soon begin across states, with free doses provided at government hospitals.

According to Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, the program will cover adolescent girls, with:
Single dose for girls up to 14 years
Three doses for girls above 14 years

Under this initiative, nearly 1.15 crore (11.5 million) 14-year-old girls will receive the vaccine free of cost every year.

Why Is the HPV Vaccine Important?

Cervical cancer is one of the leading cancers among women in India.
Around 80,000 new cases are reported annually.
More than 42,000 women die every year due to this preventable disease.
The cancer is primarily caused by the Human Papillomavirus (especially types 16 and 18).
Timely vaccination and regular screening can significantly reduce risk.

Which Vaccine Will Be Used?

The government will use Gardasil, a quadrivalent HPV vaccine that protects against HPV types 16, 18, 6, and 11.
It is considered safe and effective.
Already adopted in nearly 160 countries worldwide.

This initiative aligns with the vision of “Healthy Women, Strong Nation” and is expected to be a major milestone in preventive healthcare in India.
