In a significant development for Burkina Faso's ongoing battle against terrorist groups, thousands of citizens gathered in the capital to witness the arrival of a new fleet of mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles from Egypt. These advanced vehicles, known as the Buffalo E10, represent a substantial enhancement to the country's military capabilities, particularly in its fight against the increasing threat of landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Burkina Faso has been grappling with security challenges posed by disorganized but persistent terrorist groups. These groups have increasingly turned to the use of mines and IEDs to destabilize regions and inflict casualties. The Buffalo E10 MRAP vehicles are designed to counter these threats effectively.

The Buffalo E10, an improved version of Egypt's flagship Temsah-2 armored vehicle, is a 6×6 MRAP capable of carrying up to 12 personnel, including a driver, commander, and gunner. Its V-shaped hull provides superior protection against mines and IEDs, while its ballistic armor can withstand 7.62 mm armor-piercing rounds and shell splinters. With a 240 hp engine, it boasts a maximum speed of 100 km/h, and features such as a 360-degree turret, central tire inflation system, and fire suppression system further enhance its operational capabilities.

Burkina Faso is the first foreign operator of the Buffalo E10, underscoring a new level of defense collaboration between the two nations. The vehicles, promoted by the Egypt-based Eagles International For Defense Systems, signify a leap forward in Burkina Faso's defense infrastructure. Although the exact number and value of the vehicles remain undisclosed, their impact on the country's security apparatus is expected to be profound.

Egypt's defense industry, which has rapidly expanded over the past decade, is bolstered by strong government and military support. This industry not only fulfills domestic defense needs but also positions Egypt as a significant defense supplier in Africa. Burkina Faso has previously benefited from Egypt's defense exports, including the FAHD armored personnel carrier (APC), which has also been exported to France.
