Rok-Lok Guitar Strap System Review: It Ruins Your Paint/Finish!

***UPDATE: Apparently I touched a nerve. My video which I also uploaded to Amazon was taken down inexplicably, and I can no longer leave any review on the Rok Lol product page. I guess they don't like constructive criticism. Despite all this I am still using the product, but have added a 2" OD by 5/8" ID neoprene washer to protect the finish on all my basses and everything is working out great. Follow the facts or follow the marketing narrative...you as the consumer decide!

Picked up this system up to replace my aging Planet Waves locking guitar strap. It's a very well executed system similar to what I had but it has a major problem especially if you care about your guitars paint and finish. The kit comes with an adhesive backed rubber sticker that is meant to protect the paint/finish of your guitar, but the shape of the locking mechanism itself there is a very thin piece of the adhesive that will not stand the test of time.

This issue can be resolved by using, you guessed it, a silicone rubber washer marketed as a strap lock from Ernie Ball! It makes up for the lack of thickness that the adhesive sticker included in the kit does not provide.

Matt and Todd did a good job but you guys need a little bit more refinement to be able to call this a good strap lock system.

Thankfully the clear coat on my bass guitar (~$125) was not compromised as I caught it in time recognizing the flaw in the design. Had it been one of my more expensive instruments ($2k+) gotten damaged from a $20 product....

Hope you guys will take the constructive criticism and make the change in production as soon as possible. For those that have the system it's a very easy inexpensive component to add to avoid any problems.
