Hello and Welcome back once again. I always wanted to see a richly decorated library that you usually get to see in various social media posts. These highly ornate libraries or baroque libraries can be found in Europe and the one in Vienna is the largest of all. I also saw the one in Prague but you are only allowed to get a glimpse of it from the door and general public are not allowed inside. My dream came true in Vienna.

The Baroque style of art which flourished from the 17th century. It used contrast, movement, exuberant details, deep color, grandeur, and surprise to achieve a sense of awe. It started in Rome and then spread to the rest of Europe.

Grand Hall of the Austrian National Library houses over 200,000 historic books on its richly decorated wooden shelves. The Grand Hall is rightly one of the most beautiful library rooms in the world.

The colorful fresco by court painter Daniel Gran shows the "becoming a god" of Emperor Charles VI, who commissioned the construction of the library in 1723. The other 16 statues show rulers and nobility of the Austro-Spanish Habsburg family. The library went through a major overhaul in 2022.
