I came to Bentiu, South Sudan in March of 2022 to spend three weeks developing various flood zone food system solutions to be tested and monitored. One of these was a Chinampas system, inspired by the Chinampas of Xochimilco in Mexico City, a series of raised artificial green island beds. The aim here is to have soil surface as productive space above the height of the anticipated incoming rain and water levels.
