Engineer under investigation for posting on IG Stories at work｜Taiwan News

The Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation, or AIDC, was commissioned by the Ministry of National Defense to develop the Brave Eagle jet trainer, as part of a plan to develop domestically-built military planes. Earlier it was reported that an AIDC engineer may have leaked classified information by posting on Instagram Stories at work. Defense Minister Wellington Koo said the authorities are investigating the matter, and that the engineer will be prosecuted according to law if he’s found to have leaked sensitive information. The Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, the AIDC and the Air Force are now investigating the matter at AIDC. If disclosure of classified information is confirmed, it will be dealt with pursuant to the Classified National Security Information Protection Act.

The leaking of classified technological information will make us fail when success is within reach, and must be strictly dealt with. If related classified technological information falls into the hands of our opponents, then our efforts will be undermined. They may then interfere with our procurement processes, cut us off from the source. In that case, it’ll be a question of whether the R&D can continue.

On Friday, after corroborating the screencaps, AIDC said their engineer did not disclose important settings and data. What’s more, the social media posts showed error data. Yet the company added that even though he did not disclose classified information, the social media posts were still a serious breach to company policies, so the employee in question will be punished accordingly.
