ESP8266 modules can be programmed with Arduino Sketches or used as a standalone module. They run with their own AT based firmware or can be used just like any Arduino board. If you have used them with Arduino you may wish to restore the AT firmware, or you may just want to update to the latest version.

In Part 3 of this series I show how to find the software tools and files that you need and how to set up and run the Firmware Update process. Working with ESP12F modules here, the same principles apply to all versions, although you will need different firmware files.
