Our Story :
We finally did it—the day came. After months of planning, we packed up our lives in the UK and moved to Australia to start a new chapter working in FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) roles.

Heathrow wasn’t as hectic as TikTok warned us about, and we were feeling both nervous and excited. First up: a 14-hour flight, with a quick stopover in Singapore. The journey was long, but this was the first step toward a new opportunity—and hopefully, a better lifestyle.

Of course, we grabbed a coffee and tried to stay active. Sean even paced the airport to get her steps in. Mid-flight, we talked about our goals and what we wanted to achieve in Australia. Hairspray was my go-to movie (don’t judge 😄), and despite limited options, we stayed optimistic.

Our meals were gluten-free—shoutout to special meal people who always get served last!
But as expected, the fatigue kicked in hard. We were done. Just done.
When we finally landed in Cairns, we were exhausted… only to discover our luggage was still in Singapore. 😩

To make things worse, when we got to our hostel, we couldn’t even get in. Bad luck came in threes that day. But we powered through—got some food, crashed early, and reminded ourselves why we came.

Next stop: regional Australia. We were headed way up north—off the grid—to begin our 88-day regional work, a requirement for extending our Working Holiday Visa.

The airport was tiny, the plane even smaller. But the one-and-a-half-hour flight gave us time to read, breathe, and brace for remote FIFO life. As we landed, the red dirt roads and raw landscapes hit us—we were officially in the outback.

The airport was minimal, to say the least—our luggage came off a trailer.
But soon, we saw our FIFO accommodation, and reality set in. A small room, basic but clean.
First thing I did? Unpack and make my bed—anything to make it feel like home.
