Ruin of Kuredhivaru Mosque Complex

Описание к видео Ruin of Kuredhivaru Mosque Complex

This interview features Mohamed Adam, an elder from N.Manadhoo. The interview is about Kuredhivaru Island, which “used to be one of the richest islands of the Noonu Atoll.” People have moved off the island, but those born there are still alive. He describes what he saw on the island when he was part of a team preparing to build a resort. This included an abandoned mosque, sundial, and bathing tank still in good condition on the west side of the island, five large coralstone and sandstone wells, the coralstone foundations of numerous houses, and two houses of wealthy people that were 25 feet long and 10 feet wide.

The shape of the island changes in different monsoons due to sea erosion. Mohamed Adam notes that the graveyard was already “to the sea,” with numerous gravestones on the beach and in the lagoon, and different sized gravestones in the sea water.
