ORIGINAL INFO: Shock yeah, Spider-Man from the future!

RUMINATIONS: Spider-Man 2099 is a book I really honestly want to read more of and see more of the character (as I begin to feel like at this point the thing that’s holding back Spider-Man as a character is Peter Parker), but the trappings just kind of make me tilt my head. Stuff like corporate espionage and technology that’s meant to convince us it’s THE FUTURE! Just seems to pull me out of the action. When stuff is set hundreds of years from now, I have an easier time with that, but since it’s still so close to the time we live in now, it just bugs me, especially since they’re using made up future slang that just sounds silly. And I’m sure our slang would sound silly to people a hundred years before, but that doesn’t make it any LESS silly.

2090s Kid was an idea that worked out surprisingly well and I’m happy for that. In all honesty, the slang for him I just picked out from random objects on my table – a Kleenex box, my sewing machine… and indeed, “Sewing Machine” has become a smaller, but still beloved catchphrase of the show as a result and I couldn’t be happier.
