Alexander castle in Mymensingh is one of the most amazing and renowned structures in Mymensingh. Alexander castle was founded at the time of the rule of Maharaja Suryakanta. The king of Muktagacha Suryakanta Acharya built this palace by the name of the district magistrate of that time whose name was Alexander.
Alexander Castle is situated in the Mymensingh district. It is made of wood and iron. We can find the aesthetic mind behind the construction of the building. There is a garden surrounding the house. There are various trees, shrubs, artificial water bodies, valleys, fountains, reptiles, and various live stocks.
This castle is popularly known as “Lohar Kutir”, some people call it Rang Mohol too. it was built in an approximate land of 27.50 acres at a cost of BDT 45000 in the year 1879.
Rabindranath Tagore, grand duke of Russia Boris, Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, and many other great personalities stayed in this castle. Lord Curzon, Nawab Sir Salimullah, Chittaranjan Das, and Kamal pasha also visited this castle.
After the partition happened in 1947, it has been used as teachers dormitory and library of teachers training college.14 rooms are there on the ground and first floor of the two-storied house. On the first floor, seven rooms were used as dormitories but now the floors have been abandoned.
Most people don’t know that this castle is closely related to Rabindranath Tagore. On 15th February 1926, Rabindranath Tagore visited Mymensingh and stayed there for 4 days. Special programs had been arranged by the then landlords of Muktagacha in respect of the poet Rabindranath Tagore.
Royal furniture was brought to decorate this house. A big field is there in front of the house. Besides, there are two Silver statues which look very fascinating. A pond and a large garden can also be seen there. Some people say that the maharaja had big cats in his garden that’s why he surrounded his garden with steel cages.
ময়মনসিংহের আলেকজান্ডার দুর্গ ময়মনসিংহের সবচেয়ে আশ্চর্যজনক এবং বিখ্যাত স্থাপনাগুলির মধ্যে একটি। মহারাজা সূর্যকান্তের শাসনামলে আলেকজান্ডার দুর্গ প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়। মুক্তাগাছার রাজা সূর্যকান্ত আচার্য তৎকালীন জেলা ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট আলেকজান্ডারের নামে এই প্রাসাদটি নির্মাণ করেন।
আলেকজান্ডার ক্যাসেল ময়মনসিংহ জেলায় অবস্থিত। এটি কাঠ এবং লোহা দিয়ে তৈরি। ভবন নির্মাণের পেছনে আমরা খুঁজে পেতে পারি নান্দনিক মন। বাড়ির চারপাশে একটি বাগান আছে। এখানে বিভিন্ন গাছ, গুল্ম, কৃত্রিম জলাশয়, উপত্যকা, ঝর্ণা, সরীসৃপ এবং বিভিন্ন জীবন্ত প্রাণী রয়েছে।
এই দুর্গটি "লোহার কুটির" নামে পরিচিত, কেউ কেউ একে রং মহলও বলে। এটি 1879 সালে 45000 টাকা ব্যয়ে আনুমানিক 27.50 একর জমিতে নির্মিত হয়েছিল।
রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর, রাশিয়ার গ্র্যান্ড ডিউক বরিস, সুভাষ চন্দ্র বসু, মহাত্মা গান্ধী এবং আরও অনেক মহান ব্যক্তিত্ব এই দুর্গে অবস্থান করেছিলেন। লর্ড কার্জন, নবাব স্যার সলিমুল্লাহ, চিত্তরঞ্জন দাস এবং কামাল পাশাও এই দুর্গ পরিদর্শন করেছিলেন।
1947 সালে দেশভাগের পর এটি টিচার্স ট্রেনিং কলেজের টিচার্স ডরমেটরি ও লাইব্রেরি হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে। দোতলা বাড়ির নিচ ও প্রথম তলায় ১৪টি কক্ষ রয়েছে। প্রথম তলায় সাতটি কক্ষ ডরমেটরি হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হলেও এখন মেঝেগুলো পরিত্যক্ত হয়ে পড়েছে।
বেশিরভাগ মানুষ জানেন না যে এই দুর্গটি রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের সাথে ঘনিষ্ঠভাবে সম্পর্কিত। 1926 সালের 15 ফেব্রুয়ারি, রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর ময়মনসিংহ সফর করেন এবং সেখানে 4 দিন অবস্থান করেন। কবিগুরু রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের স্মরণে মুক্তাগাছার তৎকালীন জমিদাররা বিশেষ অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করেছিলেন।
