Maldives has been the scene of much geopolitical jostling for more than a decade among the major powers-India and China. Pushing Dragon's agenda, the Maldivian President wanted to remove India’s presence, which China has been trying to increase its influence on. Now in a sudden turn of events, Mohamed Muizzu has expressed hope to sign a FTA with India amid the country's fragile economy. In a separate development, the Maldives resumed using a Dornier aircraft and two helicopters gifted by India for medical evacuations. There is no doubt Maldives will witness a flurry of Chinese-supported and funded projects, however, finding common ground and fostering cooperation with India remains crucial.
