An American rock band from New York who became part of the indie music scene and were often considered as part of the 2000s post-punk revival.

This track Obstacle 1 is from their debut album Turn on the Bright Lights. It was released originally in 2002, but was remixed by Arthur Baker and re-released in 2003.

This is a track of dark imagery, self-destruction, regret and emotional burden. It is thought that part of the song reflects a story about a model who committed suicide by stabbing herself. The lyrics are deep:
But it’s different now that I’m poor and aging
I’ll never see this face again (or I’ll never see this place again)
Are two lines that are repeated.

The band started with Paul Banks and Daniel Kessler and Carlos Dengler (who left in 2010), with Greg Drudy on drums. Sam Fogarino took over on drums in 2000. They started in the late 90s at New York University
