Rated for uses up to 150°C - this filament can be used in the most demanding applications and under many extreme conditions. PVDF is resistant to most chemicals and solvents making it a great fit for applications that will be exposed to harsh environments like acids and solvents. FluorX™ is made using Arkema Kynar® PVDF, and it’s got Very good abrasion resistance, Low smoke and flame characteristics, long term hydrolytic stability, even resistance to NUCLEAR RADIATION!

PVDF is commonly used as insulation on electrical wires, because of its combination of flexibility, low weight, low thermal conductivity, high chemical corrosion resistance, and heat resistance. Most of the narrow 30-gauge wire used in wire wrap circuit assembly and printed circuit board rework is PVDF-insulated. It’s also used in tactile sensor arrays, inexpensive strain gauges, and lightweight audio transducers.

In the biomedical sciences, PVDF is used in immunoblotting as an artificial membrane, as well as membrane filtration devices, often in the form of a syringe filter or wheel filter.

PVDF is used for specialty monofilament fishing lines, sold as fluorocarbon replacements for nylon monofilament. The surface is harder, so it is more resistant to abrasion and sharp fish teeth. Its optical density is lower than nylon, which makes the line less discernible to sharp fish eyes.

In high-temperature processes, PVDF is used as piping, sheet, and internal coatings in high-temperature, hot acid, and radioactive environments.

WHAT KIND OF MACHINE DO YOU NEED TO PRINT THIS FILAMENT?

Nozzle Temp: 245-265°C, so just about any machine can print it
Bed Temp: 90 - 110°C, and Nano Polymer Adhesive works GREAT to keep this stuff down on the bed, as it does love to warp a lot
Print Speeds: 25-40mm/s is a typical starting point until you become familiar with the way it flows, but you can go faster.
And as far as cooling fans go, you won’t use one for speeds below 40mm/s, and you can add 20-40% cooling fan above 40mm/s.

Drying: No! You don’t have to dry this filament at all, and it will print wonderfully.

For almost every other filament on the market, make sure you check out our drykit, with vacuum chambers and all -- at visionminer.com/drykit.

As a Safety note: This polymer starts to degrade at temperatures above 290°C. So make sure you keep your extruder temperature below that to avoid degradation, off-gassing, and mechanical property loss, as well as toxic fumes -- which is another great reason to pick up a BOFA filtration system!

BASIC MATERIAL SPECS:
Heat Deflect Temp: 158°C
Melt Point: 170 (°C)

For Tensile strength, you get around 51MPa, and the tensile modulus is about 2450MPa, but keep in mind the way your part is designed and the orientation at which it’s printed will have a dramatic effect on strength. You’ll lose a certain percentage in the z-axis, depending how the part is printed. This particular stuff has great z-adhesion -- but not many materials are perfect. Check out PCTG if z-axis adhesion is your biggest concern.

All data sheets are available on our online store, at visionminer.com/data, so you can find the elongation, impact strength, and more details over at visionminer.com/data

Inherently UV-resistant
Very good abrasion resistance - similar to Nylon and UHMW-PE for high-wear applications
Long-term hydrolytic stability, meaning you could use this underwater with no adverse effects, and it’s Non-hygroscopic, so it doesn’t absorb moisture - no drying or special storage is needed!
Excellent resistance to a broad range of chemicals, such as automotive fluids (oil, gas, lubricants), fully halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols, acids and bases. It comes with a UL94 V-0 flammability rating, which is HUGE, and it can be sterilized for medical tools and applications involving harsh chemicals -- almost ANY harsh chemicals!
