Navdeep Singh Podcast Interview: Viral Javelin Gold Moment, Taunted for Height, Love for Bollywood

India won 7 gold medals at the recently-concluded Paralympics 2024 held in Paris, and the person who won the 7th and final gold medal for India was none other than javelin thrower Navdeep Singh. But his journey to becoming a gold medal-winning para-athlete has been far from straightforward and in the Republic Sport Fit podcast, he goes into great detail and reveals some never-before-heard anecdotes on his life.

He talks about how he was often bullied for his short height, a result of suffering from dwarfism. In the process, he sheds an interesting light on how people with disabilities are treated regardless of whether they reside in India's rural or urban regions.

Navdeep also talks about his viral celebration when he clinched the gold medal at the 2024 edition of the Paralympics, as well as the subsequent comparisons to Indian cricketer Virat Kohli that followed.

He addresses the comparisons to Neeraj Chopra, who is not only synonymous with the sport of javelin in India but is also Navdeep's idol and also happens to hail from the same area that Navdeep is from - Panipat.

He also touched upon his journey to becoming a para-athlete as well as his love for sports from childhood, and how a chance meeting with an unnamed Arjuna Award-winning athlete spurred on his journey right to the top of the para-sports world.

Navdeep explores his personal interests in great detail too, talking about not only his favourite foods and sweet treats but also what kind of Bollywood movies he watches and also what he does to keep himself both calm and focused.

Navdeep also opens up on his goals for the future, including but not limited to becoming a two-time Paralympics gold medallist as he will look to defend the crown he won in 2024 at the next edition of the Paralympics at Los Angeles in 2028.
