In this Under the Hood edition of Digital Voyage, I take my original childhood Nintendo Entertainment System and bring it into the modern era with a clean, digital HDMI output using c0pperDragon’s PPUdigitizer, LumaCode and RGBtoHDMI. I decided to remove the PPU chip and socket the mod so that it could be easily reversed in the future.

We’ll go step-by-step through the install process, talk about tools, mistakes, and fixes, and test it all out with Copper Jacket, a brand-new NES run-and-gun game I picked up at VCF SoCal. I’ll also show you how the video looks on both CRT and modern LED screens and why your NES actually might not look as bad as your modern TV makes it seem.
