Low light detection: PMT vs. SiPM

Описание к видео Low light detection: PMT vs. SiPM

This webinar provides an unbiased overview of the technical aspects and applications of SiPMs and PMTs, the only two devices capable of detecting very low light levels despite their different technologies (solid state and vacuum tube). Each has a unique set of advantages over the other in various detection situations. This presentation begins with a description of the principles of operation of each device, followed by a side-by-side comparison of their major opto-electronic characteristics, and finally some examples of applications where one device would be favored over the other.

Slawomir S. Piatek, Ph.D., is a senior university lecturer of physics at New Jersey Institute of Technology. In his role as science consultant at Hamamatsu Corporation, he has developed a photonics training program for engineers and is involved in popularizing SiPM as a novel photodetector by writing and lecturing about the device.

This presentation was originally webcast by Laser Focus World on December 8, 2016.
