Shankarpali, shakkarpara, khurma, laktho, murali, lakdi mithai, or just simply mithai is an Indian sweet snack. Shankarpali is popular in Western India, especially in north India specially Uttar Pradesh .It's North Indian variant known as khurma or laktho is also popular in states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. It is traditionally enjoyed as a treat on Diwali or Holi. It is rich in carbohydrates, making it an instant source of energy. It can be sweet, sour or spicy depending upon how it is made.

Ingredients:

1 cup all purpose flour (maida)
1/4 cup pure ghee (ghee should be always quarter amount of the flour)
1/4 tsp salt
water to knead the dough (approx. 1/4 cup)
1 cup sugar
1/4 water to caramelize sugar
Oil for frying
