Rusty Carpenter's Try Square Restoration

For this restoration, I found this old carpenter's try square. It was in a fairly sorry state, but still intact and functional - so a great little restoration project!


I took the square apart - destroying the pins in the process - and then cleaned up, derusted and zinc plated the metal blade. Then I sanded down and repaired the wooden handle. Unfortunately sanding it down made it a little thinner, so I had to remove some material from the brass parts so that sat flush!


With everything cleaned and polished, I then reassembled it with new stainless steel fixing pins.
