Decided to skip the flight and made the drive up to Salt Lake City to see Real Salt Lake take on Toronto FC this past weekend and I am very much glad I did so! I was joined on this adventure by my good friend, Fernando. Even though it took us about 10 hrs and a few rest stops later to finally reach the city, my expectations were blown out the window once we arrived!

My 1st time in SLC is definitely 1 worth remembering. I must admit I was exhausted by the end of the trip, but that is because this cute, intimate city has so much to offer! Go take a look and you will see just how lively this place is! I could have only hoped to stay an extra night, but surely I will be back at some point.

The stadium was actually less than a 20 minute walk from where we were staying and for that I must thank Fernando and his sister, Sharon for inviting me and letting me stay at her place. The Rio Tinto is a nice little gem surrounded by mountains, it is by far in a prime location. Although, it was on the chillier side, I did not mind at all because once inside one can barely feel it. Once I got into my seat I knew I was in store for a REAL treat of a match!

Off the marker, Real wasted no time and made it 1-0 with a cracker of a goal by Justin Meram right after he cut in and curled it into the top right. Just as they were replaying that goal, a 2nd nearly went in and I bet they wished it would have because shortly after Toronto managed to equalize! Kosi Thompson was the author of the goal that would stun the home crowd, for the time being. Just as the half was coming to a close Real managed to once again get ahead with a very well controlled and calm finish by Damir Kreilach. In the 2nd half it seemed like there was bound to be at least 1 more goal. What I didn't know was that it would come in the form of controversy. Jayden Nelson came on as a sub and immediately felt his presence known. His hard work rate finally paid off after winning back the ball with what appeared to be a legal tackle and then proceeding to catch the gk off and banging in a long shot outside the box to make it 2 all. Many, including myself were wondering if it was a foul and indeed the refs had their doubts so it went to VAR. After a lengthy check, ultimately the call stood as a goal. It seemed liked all was done, nope. There was a red card in the script and it belonged to none other than Carlos "El Titan" Salcedo. It almost proved to be costly, when recently subbed on Bobby Wood was on the break and let one fly across the gk, but it was not enough to sneak into the back of the net. Thus, ending the game in a 2-2 draw. WOW! What a game it was for the neutral perspective standpoint at least. Not so sure about Real fans. lol
