Описание к видео 2021 Heroes of Sport: Episode 47 | Steven Peace

Steven was a U.S. Navy Officer and avid bicyclist, riding nearly 200 miles a week. In 2006, he suffered a massive stroke in his brain and body, leaving him unable to speak, use his arm, or walk independently. He was medically retired as a Lieutenant Commander with honorable discharge.

One year after his stroke, Steven rode recumbent, and later, through the help of CAF’s Operation Rebound, was able to get an upright trike. Since beginning his career in para-cycling, Steven competed in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, won 9 Para-Cycling US Nationals, medaled 30 times in the UCI World Cups, and competed in 8 UCI World Championships!

Steven not only has had success in para-cycling, but also is a trailblazer, leading as a USAC Level 2 Coach for Peace Cycling Performance (PCP). In 2017, he was awarded the Order of Ikkos medal by his teammate Jill Walsh. The award recognizes a coach or mentor’s impact and difference they make in the sport! He could not have been happier to receive it and share the moment with CAF’s Cycling Club!
