Today the Unreal Engine is extremely successful with over 100 games and more to come which utilize the engine. The game "Unreal" was the starting point of the Unreal Engine 1.0 back in 1998. And it was quite impressive at the time. The effects on liquids were nice to look at. It was also new that two textures were used on one surface (one for details when you got close to it)

What is even more impressive that even though the game is now 20 years old it still runs on current Windows 10 machines without the need of any workarounds or fan made patches. A lot of games from the era are hard to launch nowadays. The only thing you need to tweak the config file for is to get the game running in a 16:9 resolution since the ingame menu doesnt give you the option.

About the game :
The shooter itself was also a new milestone. Enemies now didn't just move towards you, they were able to evade your shots and even to retreat. The music was quite atmospheric. The Gold Edition contained also the extra episode "Return to Na Pali" which is also included here. Unreal was also the first time a game included actual bots to simulate LAN Multiplayer. I recorded a single match of each map, too.
