5 August 2024, Dhaka erupted in jubilation as the long reign of Sheikh Hasina came to an abrupt end, an event that many have dubbed the nation’s second victory day. People flocked to the capital’s streets to celebrate the end of 16 year’s dictatorship. A striking transformation unfolded in Dhaka revealing a stark contrast between chaos and recovery.


On Monday afternoon, scenes of pandemonium swept through the streets as thousands of people descended on the Jatiyo Sangsad Bhaban (Parliament House). In the midst of this frenzy, residents and passersby took to social media, sharing images and videos of this chaos.

By Tuesday morning, however, a dramatic shift occurred. Student volunteers began a significant cleanup operation. These volunteers worked tirelessly to recover. The efforts of student volunteers reflect a determined push to restore the parliament building to former states, highlighting the resilience and community spirit in the face of widespread disorder.
