Building stronger international partnerships on migration has been a clear priority of the current European Commission since it took office in 2019. Similarly, the Biden-Harris Administration is set to reverse many of its predecessor’s actions with regards to migration and asylum, after four years of progressive disengagement from multilateral fora. In the light of growing global challenges, such as climate-induced displacement, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mobility, and pressing protection and resettlements needs, it is increasingly clear that no-one can ‘go it alone’. This Policy Dialogue will discuss how the European Union and the United States can strengthen transatlantic cooperation on migration, and what their joint priorities should be. How can the EU and the US approach partnerships with origin and transit countries, going beyond reducing migration drivers to advance mutual interests and strengthen protection? Finally, how can future transatlantic cooperation help strengthen the crisis resilience of global and regional mobility frameworks?

This event brought together stakeholders from both sides of the Atlantic to discuss how the US and the EU can align their migration policies effectively and sustainably in the coming years.
