Caution is highly stressed as this is just below the dam and flood quickly when water is released from the dam.

I have been to a lot of tropical places - I had no clue just how beautiful my own "backyard" is.

I have been coming to Rock Island for over 50 years and just found this place (the gorge), thanks to my niece, Michelle who was adamant that we drive down to the end of the parking lot by the mill. I have been to the overlook a few times, but the gate was always locked, I had no idea that it was a trail that led to such beautiful scenery.

To access the trail, pull into the parking lot by the old mill and drive to the end where there are public bathrooms. This is so worth the effort, just be cautious. Would be a good idea to use a walking stick or trekking poles.

Please get out and do something enjoyable.
