Real World Test: R1300 GSA on a Round the World Tour

Riding our BMW R1300 GSA across the Kazakh desert, we didn’t expect to stumble across a piece of Cold War history. Out here in the steppe lies Baikonur — a city Kazakhstan owns, but Russia still controls under lease. It was the launch site of Sputnik and Yuri Gagarin, and today it remains one of the world’s most secretive space centres. While we couldn’t enter the closed city, we reached the monument that marks Kazakhstan’s role in the space race — camels, desert roads, and history in the middle of nowhere. This is our Round the World motorcycle tour through Central Asia.
