A visit to the volcano eruption in Litli-Hrutur mountain in Fagradalsfjall volcano area located on the Reykjanes peninsula… On 18th July, our last day of 11 days Iceland trip.

It is close to the town of Grindavik.
Litli-Hrutur is a small mountain and the site of the ongoing 2023 volcanic eruption in Iceland. It's part of the nearby Fagradalsfjall volcano area, which erupted in March 2021 and August 2022. It's located on the Reykjanes peninsula.
We parked car in Grindavik parking area 2. Grindavik’s parking site is approximately an hour from Reykjavík and about 30 minutes from Keflavík international airport.

This hiking route was shut down after the eruption of the volcano on 10th July. It reopened on 17th July and we did the hike on 18th July. It was again shut down on 19th July, after a portion of the crater collapsed. It reopened on 20th July.

Seismic activity in the area increased greatly starting 4 July 2023 and continued even after 9th July (the date of our arrival in Iceland), with over 12,000 earthquakes recorded, and following a 5.2 magnitude earthquake, lava broke through the surface on 10 July 2023 near Litli-Hrútur northeast of previous eruptions (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fagra....
