What are Tactical Items in SWTOR?

Tactical items are a new type of gear that was introduced to Star Wars: The Old Republic in the Onslaught expansion. You can equip one tactical item at a time. Tactical items drastically change one of your existing abilities. Some tactical items can be used by all classes, some can only be used by certain classes, others are designed for specific advanced classes, and some are tied to specific combat proficiencies.
