James Gunn's upcoming movie, Superman Legacy, has just added Nathan Fillion to its ensemble cast, where he will don the role of Green Lantern.
Fillion is joined by Edi Gathegi and Isabela Merced, who have also recently been confirmed to join the project.
They're in company with David Corenswet, cast as Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan, playing Lois Lane.
Fillion will portray Guy Gardner, one of the characters known as Green Lanter, a character defined by his rugged masculinity but somehow remains charming, despite his obnoxious behavior.
His portrayal of Captain Hammer in Dr. Horrible, which bears similarity to Gardner, makes Fillion an ideal fit.
According to Vanity Fair, Gardner's iconic red bowl haircut will indeed be part of Fillion's character aesthetic.
Fillion is a familiar face in Gunn's productions, having starred in The Suicide Squad, Slither, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
His rise to fame was largely due to his role as Captain Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly.
Joining him is Edi Gathegi, known for his roles in Twilight and X-Men: First Class, who will embody Michael Holt as Mister Terrific.
This character, a brilliant inventor who made his first appearance in a 1997 Spectre issue, is part of the Justice Society of America and shares a rivalry with Batman, hinting at potential DCU developments.
Isabela Merced will take on the role of Hawkgirl, a character that debuted in the 1940s.
Despite several incarnations of Hawkgirl over the decades, a common theme is her use of weapons like swords, spears, and maces.
Merced's past roles include a performance in Sicario: Day of the Soldado.
Despite the ongoing writers' strike, production of Superman: Legacy is moving forward.
Gunn announced in April that the film had entered pre-production.
This film will serve as the grand debut of the revised DCU, a project helmed by Gunn and Peter Safran, the co-CEO of DC Studios, as announced in January.
Initially, Gunn only disclosed that he was penning the script for Superman: Legacy.
However, he decided in March to step in as the director as well.
