Spain 2018

Sawadee khap farangutan friends and puan puan khun Thai! This is an Our Man in Bangkok Retro Video. This was from our trip in summer 2018 to Catalonia. For me it was a special trip because I visited this part of the world when it was my 10th birthday back in April 1978. We stayed in Calella at The Corona Hotel. This was all firsts for me. It was the first time I had been outside the UK, my first time on a plane and the first-time visiting Barcelona.
I have some great memories of that holiday and celebrating my birthday in Spain. I remember my parents bought me a military helicopter toy with an Action Man clone action figure.
The hotel didn't have a pool, and we had to use a pool around the corner that was full of dead bugs. We also became friends with another family from Leeds called McGregor. They had two children, boys, not too dissimilar in age to my brother and me. You may have seen 'Our kid' as a guest presenter or in the titles.
Anyhow, it took a while finding the hotel as it is closed down and abandoned, so it didn't appear on Google maps. This is 40 years after our first trip too. It's funny how in your head and in your memories, places stay the same when, in reality, they are always changing. Nothing is static in time.
We had a couple of excursions too. I've put some shots in of those trips.
It was Na's first-time visiting Spain. She has only visited the UK, Laos and Singapore. I hoped she would see Catalonia with the same sense of fascination as I did when I first went to Spain. I had made paella at home and said that the next time we have it we should try the authentic Spanish version, which we did! Which reminds me, I haven't made paella in over 6 years!
