In British Columbia, approximately four percent of young people ranging in age from five to nineteen years of age are living with a disability. These youth are often faced with a variety of challenges that include social isolation, cognitive impairments, physical limitations, and emotional distress. These barriers are often aggravated by the misconceived attitudes associated with their disabilities and the limited funding available for adequate support services. Consequently, many of these youth and their families have fewer resources available for full community inclusion.

The Power To Be Adaptive Recreation Program plays a critical role in removing these barriers for youth and families living with a disability. Embedded in the adaptive recreation program are activities that promote physical health, emotional well-being, social inclusion, disability awareness, environmental education, and vocational skills. Our Adaptive Recreation Program provides a stepping-stone from residential care and long-term rehabilitation to active contribution within society.

Our adaptive recreation program provides access to physical activities such as sea kayaking, alpine skiing, indoor rock climbing and camping.
