Our Watershed Team is back in the field for 2025, monitoring last year’s Beaver Dam Analogue (BDA) builds, collecting baseline data, assessing new sites, and preparing for the season ahead!

This video shows one of ten BDAs built in 2024 at the Earl Ranch site in Newgate, B.C., as part of our 10,000 Wetlands project.

BDAs are a form of Low-Tech Process-Based Restoration (LTPBR), using natural materials to mimic the function of healthy streams and wetlands. By slowing down and spreading out water, BDAs help reduce erosion, trap sediment, recharge groundwater, and create vital wetland habitat. This not only improves water quality and biodiversity—it builds long-term watershed and ecosystem resilience.

Here, you can see the water being held back—proof the structure is working while withstanding the spring freshet!

The BDAs at Earl Ranch were built in October 2024 in collaboration with Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi ‘it (Tobacco Plains Indian Band), the Province of BC, and BCWF Director David Oliver, who generously donated his time, ATV, and trailer to help get the job done.
