Tino Ceberano Kyoshi & John Ross Sensei perform karate demonstrations in 1991 using open hand and walking stick techniques. Tino Kyoshi trained in the Filipino martial arts in his childhood and has combined arnis techniques with Goju to produce what he now terms Goju Kalis, using common everyday items like a cane, walking stick or umbrella for self-defense.

He believes that seniors should be able to train in basic self-defense learning these types of techniques. The Art of The Cane, or arcanis, borrows from the basic principles of the Filipino martial arts. Anyone at any age can train in this way. Today Tino Ceberano Hanshi leads the IGK in Australia and still has a busy teaching schedule at the age of 78 years. He is undoubtedly the father of Australian karate and has left a great legacy in instructing many students here since 1966.

For many years he taught Goju Kai karate-do at his North Balwyn dojo in Melbourne, Australia before forming his own IGK organisation in 1990. Some 52 years after starting to teach, he is launching his biography in March 2022. Find out more at www.tinoceberano.com.au or search in Amazon. A four week roadshow of book signings will be held in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast in March/April 2022. Signed copies can be ordered by emailing [email protected].
