Moment of truth for the ’99 Harley-Davidson Dyna.
After months of chasing the no-start / random shut-off issue, today we finally take it on a real road test to see if the problem is officially solved.

✔️ Repairs Completed Before This Ride
• New Cam Position Sensor (CPS) installed
• New ignition coil
• New plug wires
• New spark plugs
• Found E3-style threaded plug cap loose inside the boot
• Repaired previous owner hack-job: removed home electrical wire nuts from regulator wiring
• Replaced them with proper crimp connectors + heat shrink
• Verified charging system connections are tight and clean

✔️ Why I Still Believe the CPS Failed

Even with the plug-cap issue, the bike would have run on one cylinder.
The original sensor was physically damaged, and when back-probed it showed:
• 5V reference ✔️
• Ground ✔️
• No switching signal while cranking ❌

Classic failed-CPS behavior on Evo-Twin and early Twin Cam ignition systems.

✔️ What We’re Testing On This Ride
• No more random engine cut-outs
• Smooth idle when warm
• Consistent spark on both cylinders
• Charging system behavior after wiring fix
• CPS stability at temperature

If the bike rides clean with no stalling, we’ll call this one fixed.

If not… Round 2 begins.
